Esports fans have much to look forward to this year. Sony Interactive Entertainment returns as a major exhibitor, with the largest booth at the event as the Presenting Sponsor for South East Asia Major (SEAM) 2016, which will be hosted at GameStart for the first time.
As the largest console tournament in Southeast Asia, SEAM will see top Street Fighter players from around the world such as Daigo “The Beast” Umehara and Singaporean’s own Street Fighter prodigy, Ho Kun Xian, competing for a coveted spot in the official Capcom Cup 2016 Finals – the finale of a year-long worldwide league. SEAM 2016 will also include other notable tournaments for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, BlazBlue Central Fiction and the highly anticipated King of Fighters XIV, most of which are qualifiers to regional tournament finals in Japan and China. Street Fighter fans can also join the PS4 Street Fighter Asia Amateur Tournament, for a chance to win USD 3,000 cash.
GameStart’s annual FIFA tournament, the GameStart Championship Cup, is also making a comeback with support from Xbox Singapore, and prizes sponsored by GameStart, Xbox and Monitor Sponsor, ViewSonic.
Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia returns to GameStart 2016 with game previews of Tales of Berseria, Tekken 7, indie title Little Nightmares and something for VR fans. There will also be a Singapore qualifier tournament for Tekken 7, whose winner will advance to the King of the Iron Fist tournament in Japan on December 10th. FPS fans will be thrilled by the Overwatch tournament at GameStart 2016. MyRepublic is the Official Fibre Broadband Partner for GameStart 2016, and the Presenting Sponsor for the Overwatch Champions Singapore tournament, which will see some of the best teams in Singapore battle it out at their booth for prizes from Blizzard Entertainment and co-sponsor Armaggeddon.
All matches will be live-streamed online.
For an added element of fun, all visitors to GameStart 2016 receive a Quest card upon entering the hall. They will need to visit specific booths to complete activities or quests to get a lucky dip and increase their chances at winning the GameStart daily lucky draw, whose prizes include Secret Lab gaming chairs, ViewSonic 27” monitors and MSI notebook.
The Quest, presented by Armaggeddon, is also a great reason to check out the various merchandise booths, such as local retailer TOG (Toy or Game), Secret Lab, Armaggeddon, Liongeeks and Xmashed Gear, who will be unveiling new gaming tee designs at the event. Fans of game art will have plenty of eye candy at the Ubisoft Singapore art exhibition and Doujin Market, which will feature 26 artists from Singapore and Southeast Asia.
The Main Stage also hosts a varied array of content this year, including a Dungeons & Dragons session run by notable Singaporean indie developers, a panel on the gaming ecosystem in Singapore, music performances and live drawing demos.
